Vident Partners is almost at its 20th anniversary, having begun its long run in the expert referral business as Healthcare Litigation Support (HLS) in 2005. Focusing almost exclusively on medical malpractice and personal injury litigation, it built itself into a respected boutique firm, with excellent contacts in the plaintiff bar and some insurance defense clients as well. HLS was acquired by Thomson Reuters in February 2011 as part of a new division, Thomson Reuters Expert Witness Services (TREWS), which provided experts for all types of litigation. In October 2013 our company found itself independent again. Given the more expansive range of litigation areas the HLS team had participated in under the TREWS umbrella, we decided to change the name of the new company to Vident Partners. As Vident, while maintaining our focus on medical malpractice and personal injury, we incrementally expanded into all areas of litigation, gaining us a strong foothold in the defense and large law firm spaces.
The years have seen quite a bit of change in the referral service business, but ultimately Vident’s focus on quality service and its well developed relationships with the best experts in the various litigation areas have allowed us to grow significantly. We have strategic relationships with two large international consulting firms. Our clients include many AmLaw 100 firms and hundreds of plaintiff firms across the United States, Canada and England, as well as a solid cohort of insurance defense firms. However, we have become aware that our longstanding fee structure (adding a markup for our services to the expert’s fee) needs an alternative in order to accommodate our competition’s varied business models. Accordingly, we are now offering a subscription plan that can be customized to fit the needs of any firm, based on the anticipated volume of requests. We will of course continue to use our current formula, which many of our clients are quite comfortable with.
