Gathering all potentially responsive materials subject to discovery, particularly in the realm of business-data environments, is a challenge on two levels. First, experts must have a precise understanding of a company’s network and the integration of its systems to identify the data repositories that need to be acquired for review. Second, acquiring the data, preserving it, and processing it for review on an electronically stored information (ESI) platform is akin to an engineering project – building a pipeline from the data source to a system that will enable it to be analyzed. Expertise and experience with scoping and engineering this effort are crucial to timely acquisition of the right data and processing it expeditiously for review.
